I am a History undergrad at Teesside and am extremely interested in researching the lives of the wives and families of Ironstone Miners of East Cleveland. If anyone has any family anecdotes, stories, photos, memories etc of what life was like for these women and the coping strategies they used to look after their families I would be extremely grateful. Full confidentiality will be given. Please reply to:

There is a very interesting book called "New Marske Looking Back" written by the late Ena Holloway who lived in New Marske and a previous vicar, Alan Hughes.
It starts off with lots of facts and figures then goes into many anectdotes about the day to day family and working life of the miners in New Marske. There should be a copy at Redcar or Marske library. Well worth a look!
Hi Carole, Have you seen the DVD by Craig Hornby. ‘A Century in Stone.’ 2004. There's a copy in the Teesside University Library. It has interviews with people who lived and worked in Eston and California.
